The Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC) strongly condemns the armed assault on the residence of known journalist Klodiana Lala and her family members.
AHC considers this not only a bandit-like act, but also a cowardly one that seeks to exert pressure and intimidate free speech.
Journalist Klodiana Lala has carried out her mission as a professional journalist with honesty, integrity and courage, to obtain information and convey it to the public, thus encouraging debate and critique and helping intensify the fight against criminality. Her criticism of politiciasn and public representatives have sought not only to criticize every unlawful act, but also to help preserve their cleanliness.
AHC expresses maximal appreciation for protection of free speech and of the constitutional right of the media in a democratic society.
AHC applauds and encourages journalist Klodiana Lala for her worthy stance and determination to carry out her mission in the service of society, the fight against corruption, strengthening justice bodies and implementation of the principle that “people are equal before the law.”
AHC calls on criminal prosecution bodies to investigate this case with priority, objectiveness and comprehensively, to discover not only the perpetrators of this crime but particularly the real motives behind it.
