The Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC) condemns the act of violence, in the rally of December 6, 2022, exerted upon the Member of the Parliament of Albania Mr. Sali Berisha, former President and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania. The person who committed this criminal offense was identified and the Prosecution Office at the Tirana Judicial District Court began immediately the criminal case.
AHC suggest to the Prosecution Office at the Tirana Judicial District Court to carry out fast, objective, and comprehensive investigations, including statements on the incident by Mr. Berisha, before reporters, after the conclusion of the rally.
AHC deems it necessary to emphasize that peaceful rallies without weapons are guaranteed by article 47 of the Constitution and article 11 of the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR).
