The Albanian Helsinki Committee (AHC) strongly condemns the assault through numerous bullets toward national broadcaster Top Channel in the morning of March 27, 2023.
This very dangerous mafioso assault has shocked and disturbed the entire public opinion and especially the community of journalists.
Television and media in general as is known are very powerful, continuously serving and informing the public. In a democratic country, the media also has a special status and enjoys special protection.
This is the reason why this criminal and unprecedented act requires engagement with priority in quickly discovering the perpetrators and the motives of this crime and placing them before criminal justice for accountability.
AHC calls on specialized law enforcement bodies, especially the prosecution ones, that this offense of marked social danger is investigated especially fast, impartially, and comprehensively. This would serve prevent crimes and the need to create a unified front of punishing them, especially when independent media and free speech are threatened.
On this occasion, AHC expresses its profound condolences to the family and relatives of the victim, P.K., who lost his life while on duty.
